Mediation . . .
Mediation is a collaborative process where an impartial third party, the mediator, assists the parties involved in a family law matter come to an agreement. It is an informal and non-adversarial process intended to help disputing parties reach a mutually acceptable agreement.
The mediator does not make a decision regarding the matter, rather, the mediator assists the parties to come to their own decisions regarding the conflict or issues in the case. The ultimate decision-making authority rests solely with the parties. While many family law cases are highly emotional, the mediation process is a positive way to resolve all matters in a timely, efficient, and less stigmatized environment while striving towards full resolution.
If the parties are able to reach an agreement, Cheryl usually drafts the settlement agreement at mediation. This way if there is a dispute/concern about the terms of the agreement or some language in the agreement, Cheryl can help mediate those issues so there is a final signed agreement at the end of mediation.
Additionally, in most of the Second Judicial Circuit, mediation is required before the parties may take their family law case before a judge in a Final Hearing. With over 33 years of legal experience, Cheryl Gentry looks forward to assisting parties with their attorneys settle their family law issues.
Cheryl's mediation fee is based on the sliding scale outlined below and using the combined income of the parties.
