Christine Thurman, a graduate of the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law and recipient of the Memphis Bar Irvin Bogatin Social Justice Award, is a partner with the firm and is uniquely capable and effective in her ability to handle complex family law matters and children’s advocacy cases. After working in commercial litigation, probate and election law, Christine joined Cheryl Gentry in May of 2005 to focus her practice on adoption, family law, dependency, and estate planning. She is well-respected throughout the legal community for her integrity, courtroom skills, and her commitment to her clients.
An intense client advocate, Christine chose family law because it enables her to make a meaningful difference in her clients' lives. Working closely with her clients throughout the legal process, she prides herself on her ability to help her clients through difficult times, when the stakes are often high. "Remembering that each case is different and each client has very individuals needs," Christine says is vital to maintaining focus in a case. Further, Christine states that "in order to be an effective advocate you must always be prepared and evaluate your case from a strength and weakness perspective if you elect to proceed to trial." In regards to trial, Christine states "I am always ready to take a case to trial if necessary but being an effective attorney and advocate is also being willing to negotiate and settle your case if it’s in your client’s best interest."
To Christine, one of the most appealing aspects of family law is working on cases or legislation involving or affecting children. In addition to working on the Florida Bar Family Law Section’s Legislative Commitee, she is also a member of Children's Issues Commitees, and Guardian Ad Litem Legislative Commitees. Christine has gained valuable experience working with Florida Baptist Children's Homes since 2005 as well as the Heart Gallery of North Florida and she intends on staying very involved with children’s issues in the future.
Christine is an active member of the Legal Services of North Florida's community legal clinic as well as other pro bono opportunities. Christine was born and raised in North Florida, is a member of a local church, has three dogs, a cat and a horse that take up much of her personal time.
